St. Martin Parish Public Library.

The St. Martin Public Library is at 201 Porter Street in St. Martinville, Louisiana.  This is a lovely little public library located a short distance from town.  There is a separate room for genealogy-related materials.  I found a few items on my Research Log here.  There is a complete set of Father Hebert’s Southwest Louisiana Records and each of the Baton Rouge Diocese Indexes.

Primarily, this spot is all about Louisiana, and even though it is a smaller collection, I was impressed with it as a whole.  I noted this would be a great place to use the Hebert and Baton Rouge Indexes.

Another researcher told me about this library and mentioned a file cabinet full of drop folders by surnames.  I found it and reviewed everything concerning my Theriot name.  A part-time genealogist volunteers here, though I missed her on my visit.  Parking was no problem.

My path toward discovery is never ending. Notice I say toward discovery. True discovery comes from the understanding that the journey is actually the destination.

I use this blog to share my discovery. Topics vary – ranging from my exercises in micro history and travel, to the strange things that come to my mind and how I engage them.
